For most local businesses, the Google Business Profile (GBP) is the first thing a customer sees. It appears in Google Maps, in the local pack and in branded searches, often before your website. A complete, accurate profile can bring you more calls, visits and direction requests.
1. Choose the right primary category
Your primary category is one of the strongest signals you give Google about what you do. Pick the most specific category that describes your main service, then add secondary categories only where they truly apply.
2. Keep your business details accurate
Your name, address, phone number, website and opening hours must match what appears on your website and across directories. Update holiday hours in advance and avoid adding extra keywords to your business name, which can lead to suspension.
3. Add your services and a clear description
List every service you offer and write a short, honest description of your business, who you serve and the areas you cover. Write for customers first, not for search engines.
4. Use real photos
Upload clear photos of your storefront, team, work and products. Real images build trust and help people recognize your business when they arrive.
5. Collect and answer reviews
Ask happy customers for reviews through a simple link, and reply to every review, positive or negative, in a calm and professional tone. Never buy or fake reviews.
6. Post updates regularly
Share offers, news and events through Google Posts. Posts keep your profile fresh and give customers a reason to contact you.
7. Track what happens
Check your profile insights for calls, website clicks and direction requests so you can see which changes make a difference.
